Week in Liverpool comedy

By Vicky Anderson on Jan 27, 10 12:42 PM

Better late than never - here's what's coming up this week:

Sully O'Sullivan is your compere at Comedy Central at Baby Blue in the Albert Dock from Thursday to Saturday night (Jan 28/ 29/ 30). Tony Law, John Gavin and Chris Mayo kick off the run, Tiffany Stevenson and Andy Watson swap with the latter acts for Friday and Saturday.

MC Chris Cairns runs the show at the Slaughterhouse Laughterhouse on Friday and Saturday night, introducing Mat Reed and Addy Borg (see clip) plus a guest act.

With the same line up, Steve Porter is your host at sister venue the Slug and Lettuce on North John Street.

Ian Stone and Sam Avery are taking Rawhide through the weekend with gigs at the Royal Court on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For the weekend gigs, they'll be joined by Chris Ramsey and Alex Boardman.

Rawhide's open mic night, Raw, also run by Sam Avery, now takes place at Bar Baa on Myrtle Street every Tuesday night.

Get your spook on for Circus of Horrors, which comes to the New Brighton Pavilion on Sunday night (Jan 31), and the premiere of Ghost Stories at the Playhouse, about which more next week. It's not a comedy, but is written by League of Gentleman's Jeremy Dyson and Dead Set writer Andy Nyman, so has pedigree and will probably have fans of both checking out the show. Which is apparently very, very scary. Exciting trailer here:

Big Wow return to the Unity Theatre this week with the improve-style Friendship Experiment for final performances from tonight until Saturday, and Ray Cooney's Funny Money opens at the Liverpool Royal Court on Friday (Jan 29), starring all the usual suspects.

COMING SOON

I love the sound of Vinny's Flat, a new evening of alternative comedy to be performed at the Bluecoat throughout April. Cathy Butterworth and Antony Pickthall will be your hosts, improvising as a couple letting the world in on their bizarre domestic lives, where they will be visited, disturbed by or invaded by a range of guests from the "quirkier end of comedy and live art". Sounds promising!
