Royal Court Variety Lunch Club

By Vicky Anderson on Apr 28, 10 04:49 PM

"Just done a gig to 150 confused pensioners in the afternoon. It was awesome!", Tweeted Sam Avery.

Today, Royal Court Liverpool Trust launched a series of brand new shows "for those who prefer to be entertained and get home while it is still light". What a nice idea!

The variety lunch club will run throughout the year on selected Wednesdays in the main theatre, open to anyone after an afternoon of entertainment, a bowl of Scouse and a cup of tea in good company.

Tickets are £3 (£5 including Scouse) and group discounts are available too.

Entertainment isn't related to whatever show is running in the main house and will feature the best in local entertainment with a variety of comedians, actors and entertainers. Mickey Finn and comedienne and actress Pauline Daniels performed today for the first event, compered by Sam Avery, who seemed to enjoy himself a great deal if Twitter is anything to go by.

Chief exec Gillian Miller said: "Many older people may not have the chance to come into town in the evening or get the opportunity to meet new people and have a good laugh. The idea behind the Afternoon Club [which is supported by Liverpool City Council and Liverpool PCT and is part of the Year of Health & Wellbeing], is for people to come to the theatre during the daytime, enjoy some quality entertainment, meet new people and have fun."

Willie Miller is scheduled for the next event on June 16. For more info, see the Royal Court website.
