Media whore in "overexposed" shock

Posted by Vicky Anderson on June 6, 2008 9:53 AM

No, dear reader, I don’t mean me.

It turns out that the two most high profile comedians taking part in the comedy festival, who both play two shows each at rather large venues over the weekend, are, we have been told, not allowing the press in to review their shows.

Hanging on the telephone

TWO unexpected phone calls from '80s comedy legends have peppered my recent days. Although both would rather we dropped the ‘comedy’ prefix so they could both become more general legends, it isn’t going to happen. One was Baldrick and one was a Young One and it will be ever thus.

I REPORTED this week about Michael Palin coming to town to launch the latest special exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery. No hardship there - I like Michael Palin. Everybody likes Michael Palin. It’s practically the law.

Coogan, we love you

I’VE returned from my holidays to the rather exciting news that Steve Coogan is coming to the Liverpool Arena on his newly announced (and not at all bitterly titled) “Steve Coogan is Alan Partridge and other less successful characters”.

Ah, anyone would think he was doing it for the fun of it and not for the taxman, but still. It got me thinking. It isn’t hard to think of enough reasons to make him the subject of The Comedy Blog’s second pointless random list – The Unofficial and By No Means Definitive top ten Steve Coogan moments:

Russell Brand – can we adopt him please?

THE arts editor asked for my two cents with the old end of year entertainment round up yesterday, and I had a little think about what had rocked the world o’ comedy this year. It mainly consisted of the usual suspects – John Hegley brought Uncut Confetti back to the city, Daniel Kitson proved himself a truly unmissable talent with It’s the Fireworks Talking, and Lee Mack flew the flag for the ‘local hero’ award.

But one man’s onslaught on the city of Liverpool over the past 12 months deserves proper “honorary Scouser” kudos, and that’s Russell Brand. I can’t even be bothered being balanced about this anymore – the man is incredible at what he does and just keeps getting better.
